Next Stop Bus Stop Announcement System Will Make Bus Rides More Convenient

As digital technology and interactive information becomes more sophisticated, bus companies tends to apply technical innovations to their operations, bus fleet management and passenger facilities.

Sunlink mSolutions has developed the Automated Next Stop Bus Stop Announcement (ABSA) System which can deliver voice announcements in Cantonese, Putonghua and English and show the names of upcoming bus stops on light emitting diode (“LED”) displays.

Equipped with KENJI KJ-8900 mCar Advanced Terminal and KENJI KJ-1000 MDT Mobile Data Terminal, the ABSA System can be used for determining the bus's position by using a combination of Global Positioning System (GPS) and Dead Reckoning (DR), an odometer providing distance traveled and a gyroscope observing changes in direction, the System can provide a continuous location information and automatic correction. Making use of these technologies, the ABSA System can automatically determine the schedule adherence to the bus route and trigger the announcement of the next bus stop as it is approached.

Furthermore, the KJ-1000 MDT Mobile Data Terminal allows bus drivers to select the route and the next stop to be announced. The bus drivers can also scroll forward or backward the list of announcements within the selected route, so that the drivers can adjust the announcements when there is any changes on the route. Moreover, the system also provides the ability to define and play special announcements at pre-defined locations on the route, such as emergency notice, educational or promotional materials.

These enhancements make it easier for bus riders to know the stops they passed by when approaching their destinations. This new technology will make the buses more convenient for the bus riders to use, especially those who are visual or hearing impairment and those who are unfamiliar with their destinations.
